Whether it is by choice or because your schedule does not fit with someone else’s, solo travel is indeed a fascinating ride that every female should experience at least once in her life. As far as I’m concerned, traveling solo is a liberating and eye-opening experience that feeds your passions promotes self-discovery, and stretches your comfort zone. I dream of the day when women don’t have to look for recommendations for safe places to travel alone. However, while this still isn’t the reality, I believe that with a positive attitude and general street smarts, there are plenty of places in the world where you can feel safe and secure on your own.

Here are Top10 safest destinations for solo female travelers( in no particular order)

1. Amsterdam Netherlands

Amsterdam received the nickname “Venice of the North” because it has many beautiful canals. This charming city has something for every type of female traveler. Whether you enjoy history, are a party animal, or prefer to simply take in the scenic view, Amsterdam has it all. The canals are yours to explore as you discover the unique culture and nightlife of the city. Rent a bike and run into (not literally of course) some friendly and laid-back Dutch locals.

Amsterdam’s cafe and foodie culture have exploded, so it’s a great time to visit!

2. Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen – the capital of Denmark – is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the safest and most intimate places to travel alone in Europe. Known as the coolest kid in the Nordic block, this Danish city beckons female travelers with its nightlife, culture, shopping, and beautiful architecture. Consider checking out the goddess Gefjun fountain, which tells the mythological story of how Denmark was created. Stop by at night, where the fountain lights up with a blue glow, alluding to the magic in the Norse religious history.

Moreover, the city is compact and is fairly easy to navigate, even though it is mixed in its urban scene. In fact, you can explore Copenhagen and experience its grandeur by using only a bicycle.

3. Melbourne, Australia

As a solo female traveler be sure to add Melbourne, Australia to your bucket list. Holding the crown as the Most Liveable City in the World according to the Economist Intelligent Unit, Melbourne has a lot to offer between the culture, live entertainment, and topnotch food. Soak up the sun while you explore museums, parks, and while you take in the Victorian-era architecture. But if you’re not looking to stretch your legs, hop onto the free City Circle tram line to reach the graffiti-clad Hosier Lane where you’ll find plenty of young backpackers perfecting that artistic selfie or the hipster haven of Brunswick Street packed with its trendy bars, cafes, restaurants, and vintage shops.

4. Singapore

As one of the safest cities to visit in the entire world, this list would not be complete without mention of Singapore. Friendly, safe, and supremely clean, this Southeast Asian hub enraptures female solo travelers with its incredible shopping opportunities, mouthwatering cuisines, and mash-up of cultures. The city is vast and there is much to discover, so I would recommend traveling by MRT if you plan to see it all (or close to it)

San Marina Bay Singapore

5. Montreal, Canada

Canadians have a reputation for being the friendliest people in the world and no city is that truer than in Montréal. While Ottawa may be the capital, Montreal appeases female solo travelers with its scenic riverfront Old Port, history museums, grand old French restaurants, and old cobblestone streets that are lined beautifully with 17th-century buildings. What’s more, it is home to the Montreal Botanical Gardens as well as dozens of bars and nightclubs.

With its low crime rates – violent crime is virtually non-existent in tourist hot spots – it’s calling out to solo female travelers to come and tread through streets. And by the way, did we mention that it is just a few hours away from the iconic and supremely beautiful Niagara Falls?

6. Bali, Indonesia

Relaxing beaches, temples, many inexpensive places to stay as well as delicious yet inexpensive food are good reasons why Bali is often deemed one of the ultimate places to travel alone for females. With an amazing backpacking culture for young folks, budget-conscious female travelers will always be someone cool to hang out with in Bali. And with all those striking beaches, you bet there are quite a few marvelous resorts for a little bit of luxury in this tropical haven. You will be so busy unwinding and soaking up the wondrous Balinese culture that you’ll forget that you are traveling alone.

7. Queenstown, New Zealand

More than just Hobbiton, New Zealand is a stunning Oceanic country located in the Pacific, brimming with bountiful natural beauty.

This country is immensely popular for backpackers and as such, is a thriving hub for tourism. The great news is that unlike its Down Under neighbor, it isn’t home to a million deadly animals lurking around the corner ready to pounce on you, making it much safer to travel to, and with relatively low crime rates, and heaps of friendly locals, it makes for an excellent primary solo trip.

8. New York City, United States

Looking for amazing places to travel alone in America? Explore the Big Apple’s outer boroughs and the streets of Manhattan with no arguments over which iconic landmark, cutting-edge gallery, and world-famous museum to visit. Consider taking a walk through Central Park or see a show by yourself. Be sure to grab a slice of New York-style pizza and don’t worry, it’s totally normal to eat alone in the city. Exploring New York City, as a solo female traveler is not only safe but easy to do so too. When you plan your stay be sure to stay somewhere that is close to subway access. The subway will help you get across the entire city on a budget! However, if you don’t feel comfortable traveling alone on the subway there other great options such as taking an Uber.

9. Toronto, Canada

Looking for a sure-fire bet? Look no further than Canada’s dynamic metropolis – Toronto! In 2015, the Economist Intelligence Unit released its Safe Cities Index, ranking Toronto as the 8th safest city in the world. More than just a safe haven for a solo traveler, Toronto is also teeming with striking sights, wonders, and intriguing spots, including CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, Casa Loma, and many more.
